TOOK ME LONG ENOUGH. This thing has been sitting on my desktop for like a MONTH.

NAME: Kurihi ((Koo-ree-hee)) / Sohko

AGE: 21

AFFILIATION: Freelance good.

PERSONALITY: Kurihi's a bit of a goof-- he's usually serious but he knows when it's good for you to take a load off of your mind with some lighthearted conversation. If you get him alone, though, he's usually a little broody and may take him a bit to get back into his usual groove. He tries to get along with everyone and kind of hates fighting, unless he has to.

DESCRIPTION: Kurihi is probably a bit of an odd sight to see out in the world of Solace. He's super dark skinned, 6'9'', and wears less clothing than most people you'd meet out on a battlefield. He hails from the tiny island that no one knows of named Guam (it's everywhere.), the island of voodoo and reincarnation. His worn, khaki pants (...leggings? idk guys orz) cut under his orange, steel-plated boots. He's also got a sort of... loincloth sash thing of a dark blue color with white-gold stripes on the side. (a note is that the only reason he wears the pants is because he thinks it's too cold out in the rest of Solace, even Alondia. Back in Guam people liked being in skivvies because it's so HUMIDLY HOT.) Kuri also has blondish gold hair that's super curly and is pushed back except for some stray clumps. His eyes are blue or greenish blue, depending on lighting.

Kuri is right handed, but he throws with his left hand. He can throw decently with his right hand, which fools people until he throws with his left hand. Then they probably have a broken nose. or other various body parts.

When Kurihi gets angry, peculiar markings flash all over his skin, like a tiger's stripes. They glow a brighter gold than his hair, matching the markings on the cloth around his waist.

WEAPONS/ABILITIES: Kurihi's island is heavily cultured in a special type of voodoo that gives them supernatural powers, usually in the shapeshifting and conjuring department. Kurihi, along with the power to shapeshift, has the ability to conjure a powerful, physics warping ball that can, on command, slow down while maintaining its momentum. It can also be infused with special charms that can afflict people for a short amount of time, or elemental powers. All in all, it's super versatile.

Other people can catch it, though. Kurihi can merely make it disappear, but it takes a lot of energy to make the ball in the first place, so he'd rather just catch it if they throw it back. However, if someone else threw it, he can't control the velocity or anything about it at all.

Kurihi is a seasoned bounty hunter as well. He specializes in dealing with draconians and kicking their ass back to reptilian square.

The skill he uses most when dealing with draconians is shifting into tiger form. This is his closest related spiritual form and he hardly wastes any energy switching back from the two, so his combat skills rely on this ability. (Kurihi can shapeshift into almost any form his energy will allow him, but shifting into anything else other than a tiger will exhaust him terribly.)

Kurihi's tiger form is seven feet tall when on its hind legs. It has a dark blue coat with white-gold stripes. As he moves, his energy will emanate from him in an almost surreal smoke, like he's a ghost.

His tiger form has a giant marking on his back that is swirly and cool and I have yet to draw it. D: coming soon orz

Kurihi's tiger form is mad fast, his teeth and claws pierce easily (the points are so honed that they slip through the tiniest holes, like the tiny gaps in dragon scales) and he has a long distance attack where he can blast spirit beams from his mouth. It's associated with no element but it's the same as magic damage, which can be a good and bad thing.

But, Kurihi has the worst endurance in the world. He can take a ridiculous amount of hits and not even notice but he ends up just tiring himself out because he uses all his strength in that first bit of the battle. He's dumb like that.

BACKGROUND:

Kuri's tribe has been transforming and conjuring for ages. It's an art that is passed down from generation to generation and varies with people and families. They say that they first gained the power when their oldest god had dove into the pond of spirits to rescue their first ancestor. The two's spiritual energy combined and broke apart, leaving the ancestor with supernatural powers.

Since then, Kurihi's island flourished, using that spiritual energy to improve its technology. It hid itself from the world with fog and illusions. Even though it was tiny, people from that island traveled abroad, sending money and goods back home in secret.

Once upon a time (yes I'm starting with this shut up), there were two best friends.

Sohko and his best friend Kurihi left the island to travel together and procure goods for their village. Kurihi was the goof that took nothing seriously, and Sohko was the guy who thought everything was.

They'd snagged bounties everywhere, their impeccable teamwork the stuff of heroes. They were unbeatable.

...But even best friends can have their limits.

One day, Kurihi played a joke on Sohko. It was, actually, for once, funny. Hilarious, even. But Sohko was furious with embarrassment and they had a fight right then and there. They separated from then on.

A month or so later, Sohko accepted a formidable bounty about a monster that preyed on people's souls. (...no. not Keon. Just a stupid fatty with an ugly face that steals souls... Not Keon. EVEN IF THE DESCRIPTION MATCHES. Okay, that was mean. I'm sorry. XD) Kurihi found the monster in its breeding grounds, slurping up its latest soul...

From his best friend's body.

Sohko was overcome with such a panic and rage he'd launched himself straight at the monster in his soul form without thinking. The monster, being AN EATER OF SOULS (what an idiot), ate him in one bite.

Sohko could feel himself slipping the moment he fell into that violet-blue froth of stewing souls, but he fought to linger as he swam amoung the endless void in human form, screaming his friend's name.

Sohko, even as he was being burned by the dying spirits' wrath, finally found Kurihi's soul amidst the middle of the swirling vortex. He grabbed at it with one hand... and...

There was a flash.

And suddenly, everything was white.

No souls, no monster, no jungle, nothing. Just white.

Then, suddenly, there was Kurihi, in the center of it.

Kurihi smiled at Sohko. It was different than his usual, goofy smile. His blue eyes seemed like they were about to cry.

Sohko opened his mouth to speak but found no real sound escaped, only the soft sound of ocean waves against the coast. Strangely, he felt like he were about to cry as well.

Kurihi took the magic ball from his side and placed it into Sohko's hands, still smiling, and walked away, into the white... and faded, the whisper of a thought echoing in his head...

I know you'll laugh when this is done.

...For me.

Please?

Suddenly, Kurihi woke up.

Or was it Kurihi?

Sohko stared down at Kurihi's hands, on Kurihi's legs, with Kurihi's eyes.

Sohko's idiot of a best friend sacrificed his own soul to repair his, and had even given up his body to replace Sohko's own probably incinerated one.

But was he Kurihi, too? He could feel bits and pieces that felt like Kurihi, and some memories that were Kurihi's, but the definite emptiness and sorrow was Sohko all over it.

But, despite it all, even as his shoulders shook with sobs--

Sohko grinned, and laughed to the sky with tears running down his face, because Kurihi could.

...SHORT VERSION:

Sohko's best friend, who's name was Kurihi, had his soul eaten by a monster. Sohko tried to save him but ended up being the one saved, and his friend gave up his body and pieces of his own soul to repair Sohko's own broken one. Sohko was ashamed of himself for it, so he'd discarded his own name and took his best friend's, vowing to be stronger for the both of them.
